Where it started
I'm James. I run a family farm in Essex growing combinable crops. In 2017 I got fed up with the endless, time-consuming paperwork, so I started work on Grain Manager, built on a spreadsheet. We've been working on it every harvest since, adding features and refinements. It grew. It got powerful. It's moved past the spreadsheet now, and Grain Manager has had a complete end-to-end redevelopment. There's a small team of us behind it today, and when time allows I'm still at the keyboard most evenings and weekends.
It's got to the point where we wanted to share it with every other farmer who's fighting with paperwork. We built this for ourselves, and now we've built it for you. We hope it helps.
We want to keep making the everyday jobs quicker and easier. My father always said that if you're going to do a job, do it once and do it well. The problem with farming and paperwork is that it's not always possible. It's hard to reach the filing cabinet from a tractor seat, or to file that delivery note in the right place when there are a million other jobs that need doing immediately. So here's Grain Manager, the system that lets you do the job once and do it well, with everything you need in your pocket.
How it's built
It's built around how a farm actually works. Harvest seasons, not calendar years. Sheds, not database tables. The passport you print most days, not a dashboard you look at once a month. It has to work on a phone in a grain store with no signal, because that's where the job is.
If you love paperwork and filing, this isn't for you. If you'd rather be growing your business, or maybe even taking a day off, it is.
Where it is now
Grain Manager is in active beta, built with growers in real harvests. It's still young. A product like this only survives if enough farmers use it and stick with it. If you try it and it's not working for you, tell us why. We'd rather fix it than lose you.
